Plans to build a multi-million pound conference centre at the Winter Gardens are being discussed by Blackpool Council today.

The proposal - which could cost up to £25 million pounds - is for a exhibiton area and a 1,500 capacity conference room on Leopold Grove where the multi storey carpark used to be, with the ground floor linking into the Empress Ballroom.

It would be funded with a bid for cash through the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership as part of the Government's Growth Deal scheme.

Councillors have been recommended to set aside £50,000 to submit the bid, which if successful would boost business tourism.

It's been almost a decade since the last major political conference was held in the resort.
