Blackpool man who was caught up in the middle of the uprising in Turkey.

Bernard Singleton is on holiday in Marmaris with his family.

He told us he took cover behind the bed with his grandson when their hotel came under attack.

Speaking to us from his hotel, Bernard said: '' It was a bit of a shock being woken up by all the gunfire and helicopters in the early hours.

''I couldn't see anything at first but it gradually got louder and louder and my grandson woke up.

''We could see flying glass splattering against the patio doors in our room so I took my grandson and we hid behind a mattress behind the bed. We were right on the front promenade near the beach so we were right in the firing line.

''We found out that the Turkish President was staying at the hotel next door and we think they were after him. But at first we thought it was terrorists, it was frightening.

''Later in the day police were outside searching for bullets and forensics.

''We don’t want to come home. We'll stay vigilant but are continuing our holiday as normal. We've been to Turkey quite often but you can’t let them beat you. You can't let them win. We're staying in the same hotel in a different room. It makes you think about it but hopefully it’s a one-off and it won’t put us off coming here again.''
