The decision about whether to close a string of libraries and childrens' centres across the Fylde is being reconsidered by Lancashire County Council this morning.

Campaigners won the decision for the Authority's Scrutiny Committee to look at it again last week.

21 local services are earmarked to be axed as part of budget cuts.

Thornton and Cleveleys Libraries and a string of other libraries and children's centres moved a step closer to being saved after county councillors agreed to look again at a decision to axe them last week.

The Overview and Scrutiny "Call In" procedures allow for such a meeting to be called when a minimum of five county councillors, representing more than one political group, request it.

The Scrutiny Committee's ruling means that a special meeting of Cabinet has been arranged for 10am this morning (Monday), where Cabinet are now required to consider the request and decide whether to affirm, amend or rescind the decision.

Some of the changes due to be introduced from Friday 30th September if the decision isn't overturned.
