Two teenagers went for a 4am joyride on a rollercoaster at a theme park after getting into the control room and switching the ride on.

The pair scaled fences to get into the Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Friday and were spotted on CCTV cameras riding the Blue Flyer ride.

They played on the 82-year-old wooden rollercoaster for up to half an hour, before breaking into the park's T-Cafe and throwing food around.

They fled when challenged by security guards.

A 15-year-old boy from Blackpool was arrested at the scene and given a community resolution order, which is not classed as a conviction.

No other arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the Pleasure Beach said the youths climbed over barriers and locked gates, before activating the ride in the park's Nickelodeon Land section.

He said: "They managed to operate the ride some time before they were discovered by security patrols at 4.50am.

"From CCTV footage we understand the intruders were at the ride for up to 30 minutes.

"During this time the two youths can be seen on the ride."

The ride was built in 1934 and reaches speeds of up to 25mph (40kph) - hurtling down an initial drop and over two smaller hills, before going through a tunnel.

The park spokesman added: "Blackpool Pleasure Beach operates 24 hour security and patrols across the 42-acre site 365 days a year.

"Security will continue to operate with vigilance across the site, assisted by CCTV surveillance monitoring activity on the grounds."
