Sam Slocombe believes Blackpool have produced some of their best football against the top-end sides this season and hopes for more of the same against Doncaster Rovers this weekend.
The Seasiders have been the better side against Plymouth, Carlisle and Portsmouth this season – three of the top five in the division – even if the results haven’t matched their efforts.
Doncaster arrive in second place having taken ten points from the last 12 available but Slocombe insists Pool won’t be fazed and expects another strong performance.
“You look forward to playing these games because you know they’ll come here and try to play football,” he said. “Plymouth and Portsmouth did it and we played really well against them.
“The way they play is a little bit more open which should give us the opportunity to create some very good chances of our own and play free-flowing football.
“Although they’re the top scorers in the league, I would say we’ve probably created as many chances as them but haven’t taken them which is the simple difference.”
The Seasiders go into the fixture stuck in the bottom half having failed to put a run of good results together, but performance levels have allowed Slocombe to remain logical.
“You’ve got to be realistic, we’re five points off the play-offs and it is only October. It’s a long old season and if you’re within touching distance around Christmas and can put a run together things change dramatically.
“I’m glad that other people can see we’re playing well, it’s just errors that are really costing us.
“On the flip side, if another team’s making an error we don’t seem to be fortunate enough or in the right place at the right time to capitalise on it, but over the course of a season I truly believe they become even,” he added.
