Police are appealing for information after a woman was spat on and assaulted with a lit cigarette in Blackpool.

Police were called around 3.10am on May 8 following reports of an assault on Queen Street.

A 24-year-old woman had been out with friends when an argument started with a group of men close to the junction of Queen Street and Abingdon Street.

One of the men approached the woman and spat on her, before pushing a lit cigarette towards her face causing an injury to the female's eye.

The men then ran away.

The victim was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where she was treated for a damaged cornea and impaired vision.

Police are appealing for information following the attack and are particularly keen to speak to this man, pictured, in connection with the incident.

PC Matthew Pearson, of Blackpool Police, said: "This was a cowardly and despicable assault which has left a woman requiring hospital treatment.

"The nature of the attack was particularly shameful and we want to find the person responsible.

"If you recognise the man pictured, please contact police immediately."
