A man whose actions resulted in his baby son suffering ‘life changing’ injuries has today (Monday 26 September) been sentenced.

Tomasz Raszkiewicz, 33, of Central Drive, Blackpool was jailed for three years and two months after previously pleading guilty during a hearing at Preston Crown Court earlier this month.

Raszkiewicz’s son, Lucasz Gal, was just five weeks old at the time of the incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 22nd last year.

He was being held by his mother who was forcibly pushed by Raszkiewicz as she turned to leave a room during an argument. As she fell to the floor, the baby’s head hit a door.

The boy was originally taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but later transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where he remained in a critical condition for a number of weeks. He suffered a fractured skull and has been left with severe brain damage.

DS Chris Williams from Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “I am pleased that that today justice has been served for this poor child and that Raszkiewicz, who has never displayed any remorse for his actions, is now behind bars.

“Raszkiewicz showed no regard for the safety and welfare of this defenceless baby, who should have been safe in the arms of his mother but instead has been left with brain damage so bad that he will need specialist medical help for the rest of his life. Today my thoughts remain with him and his family.”

Raszkiewicz, originally from Poland, will be deported upon his release from prison
