Residents can buy top quality Christmas trees at a knockdown price, with money raised from the sales going back into supporting recycling in Blackpool.

The Nordmann Fir trees are the top choice for indoor Christmas trees, due to not dropping many needles and having strong branches – and have been a hit with residents looking to buy a real Christmas tree over the last few years.

The child and pet friendly Nordmann Firs are Britain’s biggest selling Christmas tree and are expected to be very popular.

The Christmas trees are on sale from Blackpool Council’s re-use shop at the tip on Bristol Avenue, costing either £35 for a 6ft tree or £40 for a 7ft tree.

All trees also come with a free log stand and are netted for transportation.

Cllr Fred Jackson, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Highways, said: “Buying a Christmas tree from the tip helps to support recycling in Blackpool, with all the money raised going back into our waste services, as well as helping make a charitable contribution to the Mayor’s charities.

“I know a lot of residents were very happy with it last year and these trees make an ideal feature for your home this Christmas, at a bargain price.

“However we only have a limited amount and we expect them to sell out quickly – so don’t wait too long before coming to pick one up.â€

Christmas trees can be booked in advance with a deposit of £10.

Blackpool Council will also help recycle the trees once Christmas is over. Trees will be collected from outside all properties if left out on their recycling day between Monday 2 January and Friday 13 January 2017.

After that date, trees can be brought to the tip on Bristol Avenue, or put in a green bin if your household subscribes to the ‘Green and Go’ service.

If your tree is larger than 6ft please cut them down to size to be collected.

The tip and re-use shop are both open Fridays to Wednesdays between 10am and 3.45pm.

This Christmas, bin collections will only change on one occasion over the festive period, with any collections scheduled for Monday 26 December to instead take place on Saturday 24 December.
